Machine Controlled Access
CHARTER: Decide which machines should have controlled access via RFID card. Define what is the minimum demonstrated proficiencies in order to be granted access to each piece of equipment. Anticipate this to be a one-time activity, with possible new equipment review.Review/Develop Shop Rules
CHARTER: Review our existing shop governing documents (shop rules, policies, By-laws) as related to the new shop. This effort will include, but not limited to new shop expectations regarding behavior. The committee will make recommendations to the Board regarding changes/additions. CHARTER: Establish standards for shop behavior. Develop clear communication to the general membership regarding behavior and the enforcement of those behaviors. Define follow-up/escalation procedures for addressing habitual offenders. Investigate the usage of “shop monitors”. Prepare information to be included on the web and newsletter regarding occurrences/opportunities and education. Make recommendations to the Board regarding changes moving forward. This will be a one-time effort, with possible refresh from time to time.New Member Orientation
CHARTER: review and modify the new member orientation to promote better shop awareness, safe machine usage, and shop rules and policies. This may be a multiple session orientation. The committee will make recommendations to the Board as to what it should look like and what should be included? CHARTER: Recommend to the Board what the minimum requirements are for ALL shop members BEFORE using the new shop. Anticipate this to be a one-time activity, with possible annual review.Moving Strategy
CHARTER: Lead the effort to organize the move to the new shop. This will include identifying items to be moved, modified, or disposed of. They will ensure the machines are thoroughly cleaned and maintained before the move. They will coordinate with the other committees to facilitate a smooth move. Recommendations will be submitted to the Board prior to implementation. This will be a one-time effort.Equipment Moves
CHARTER: Prepare all machines for the move. This committee will be responsible for final equipment location, orientation, anchoring as well as utility connections and proper clearance around the work space. Recommendations will be submitted to the Board prior to implementation. This will be a one-time effort.New Equipment Prioritization
CHARTER: Prioritize what major pieces of equipment should be purchased and in what order/year. They will make recommendations to the Board. Considerations will include budget, replacement due to age/condition, new functionality, percentage of shop that would use the new equipment, training requirements, etc… Anticipate this to be a one-time activity, with possible annual review.New Stationary Equipment Selection
CHARTER: Evaluate commercial grade equipment identified on the near-term equipment prioritization list from the “new equipment prioritization” committee for the upcoming calendar year. The committee may use the existing form as a starting point. The committee may investigate lightly used equipment (auction or reseller). Make recommendations to the Board on what to purchase, along with comparisons. This committee will be responsible for purchase, installation, testing and development of training material. General Shop Management
CHARTER: Address and define policies and procedures for the new shop regarding “free table usage”, bulletin board usage, clean/quiet room usage, donations (large and small), guest policy (who/frequency), project storage cubie, tool loans, lost and found, excess equipment, kiosk inventory and stocking, and management (member sign in/out method, tool loan procedure) router and drill bits, machine mounted sandpaper, saw blades, and proper storage of tools. This will be a one-time effort.Shop Safety
CHARTER:This committee will be focused on shop safety. The committee will assess all shop activities and storage for safety standards, and document as such. Cleanliness is included in this activity. Make recommendations to the Board for new/modified shop rules and/or policies. This will be an ongoing effort.Internet & WiFi within the Shop
CHARTER: Define the physical and logical architecture for internet and Wi-Fi within the new shop. This will include hardware recommendations, locations and wiring methods. Recommendations will be presented to the Board. Anticipate this to be a one-time activity, with possible new equipment review.Computer, Printer, Monitor, Etc. in the Shop
CHARTER: Make recommendations to the Board regarding having a computer (with DVD player), software, and printer within the new shop. They will be responsible for creating rules of usage regarding the equipment/software. Upgrade and Maintain Portable Hand Tools
CHARTER: Identify opportunities within the shop to upgrade or enhance our portable electric tools and manual mechanical hand tools. They will be responsible for identifying opportunities, evaluating alternatives, selecting tools and making recommendations to the Board. They will also make recommendations to the Board regarding “proper” stocking levels. This will be an active on-going effort.Develop standards for, and maintaining, cutting tools (router bits, drill bits, saw blades, etc…)
CHARTER: Evaluate our existing standards for procurement of cutting tools, as well as investigate potential new standards. They will also recommend “proper” stocking levels. This will include sharpening/replacement guidelines. Make recommendations to the Board. This will be an active on-going effort.Library
CHARTER: Manage the new shop library. They will decide how/where to store material. What material will be in the library? Check out/in of material? Decide how/if material in the library should be documented. Others as decided by the committee. Make recommendations to the Board for implementation. Receive new/donated materials and log/file/place them into the library. Education/Mentor Program
CHARTER: Develop additional educational content, expand and provide guidance to the mentor program to generate additional presenters, and shop available helpers. This committee will make recommendations to the Board.Newsletter

Shop Video Recorders
CHARTER: This committee will lay out the new shop video recorder equipment locations for the construction package (currently under review). Scope includes generation of material list care/raceway routing, and construction of cabinet and mounting plates for NVR units. CHARTER: evaluate new shop storage needs. They will decide what to move or design and build new, or modify existing cabinets for the new shop. They will be responsible for submitting designs to the Board, procuring material, and performing construction. They will also be responsible for procuring storage of new constructed cabinets until the new shop is ready to accept them.
